PRESS RELEASE
Manufacturing agreement for Stereax® with Semefab Ltd
Ilika plc (AIM: IKA), the advanced solid-state battery technology and materials innovation company, announces an intended manufacturing partnership with Semefab Ltd ('Semefab') for the manufacture of Stereax® thin film solid-state cells.
Since 1986, Semefab has produced a diverse portfolio of CMOS, ASIC and semiconductor technologies. Ilika and Semefab have undertaken a detailed review of Ilika's qualified process for the manufacture of Stereax® thin film batteries. Semefab has confirmed that it has the microfabrication know-how to be able to manufacture Stereax® cells on an economic basis in quantities suitable for market introduction of products. Semefab has also confirmed that the Ilika process is technically compatible with its facility in Fife, Scotland.
Allan James, Semefab MD, stated: "We believe there is a substantial market opportunity for thin-film microfabricated batteries, which is well-aligned with our current business."
Graeme Purdy, Ilika CEO added: "We are delighted to be working with Semefab, which has a long history of manufacturing MEMS and IC products. Semefab is arguably currently the UK's leading commercial foundry of such devices. This key manufacturing partnership extends Ilika's market reach and advances the Company one step closer to a valuable licensing deal.
